Some Common Mistakes Committed By Students Preparing For NID Exam

There are many students who have been aspiring to undergo NID program and hence, undertake rigorous preparation for it. But even though, they put in the efforts, time and dedication towards studying for this tough examination, a majority of them tend to make some common mistakes which when avoided can help them to qualify it.

Some common mistakes to avoid

  • Sketching not required to be practiced: The student may feel that he/she is good in drawing and hence, practicing is not required. What the person needs to understand is that school level art class syllabus comes with restriction. Complex topics such as 3D visualization, perspective drawing, light and shadow, live sketching, etc. are not covered in it. Such topics are to be explored and practiced as well.
  • Focusing on drawing skills only: Students have this common misconception that excellent drawing skills are sufficient enough for clearing NID. The person would be in a position to have ideas and thoughts to be implemented on paper, if only he can draw them properly. The paper has been set for verifying the student’s imagination, visualization and observation skills besides sketching. Equal attention is to be paid and adequate time set for upgrading the necessary skills.
  • Creativity is not natural and god’s gift something the student possesses or doesn’t: It could be that a friend may have endless creativity source, however, the person lacks it if good ideas are required. The student may assume that he is not born creative and talented. The reason may be that his creativity could be lying dormant or lost touch due to the rush of day to day life. It is possible to have creativity encouraged with proper preparation.
  • Current affairs and General Knowledge: There are many who may feel that last moment reading of General Knowledge and current affair books would suffice. But the truth is that NID papers are said to comprise plenty of topics that are simply beyond the bookish knowledge. It is necessary for developing wonderful observation skills combined with genuine interest in the happenings of the day to day events that take place. It is also equally important to develop that habit of going through newspapers on a regular basis. This way, it becomes possible for the student to be in touch with the outside world and to know as to what exactly is happening within the domain of culture, art and environment.
  • Speed is not a major concern: In case, the person is not able to finish his paper on time, then good and creative ideas would prove to be just useless. However, it can very much be improved over time with practice. Taking a clock, the timer is to be set and then one should start solving the previous year papers of the NID. Adequate time is to be devoted to each and every question that should be in proportion to marks carried by it. In the beginning, much remarkable difference might not be seen. However, the drawing speed is sure to improve over time.
